What a better way to share the love of baseball than teaching others tips and tricks.

Southwest Little League teams hosted youth from Edenbridge Family Services at an afternoon camp on Tuesday but coaches said the players were also learning something on the field.

“It’s fantastic for [our players] to get an idea of what some of the programs in our community that are out there,” coach Denny Puszkar said. “They have to start getting a sense of community and this is a great start for them.”

Micah, 18, is nothing short of a baseball fanatic. He spent the afternoon with a grin across his face, learning as much as he could about his favourite sport.

“Today I’m doing pitching and battling and everything like that,” Micah said.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Edenbridge volunteers sat on the sidelines and watched as the kids they work with every day spent a fun-filled afternoon in the ballpark.

“We have quite a few individuals in camp – Micah being one of them – who just love baseball,” Katlynd Boucher said. “Getting to experience something like this is just a dream come true and he is over the moon. It’s really cool to be able to do something like this and give other kids like Micah an ability to experience that.”

While it was all fun and games, organizers also said they hoped everyone left with a stronger sense of community.

“Hopefully we are developing people that want to continue to contribute to Lethbridge or whatever community they wind up in,” Puszkar said.
