TORONTO – Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion has dropped the appeal of his one-game suspension for making contact with an umpire during a game earlier this month.
Encarnacion will serve the suspension on Sunday, missing the last game of Toronto’s four-game home series with the Detroit Tigers. It’s the last game before the all-star break.

The 33-year-old Encarnacion was originally suspended on July 3 after he made contact with home plate umpire Vic Carapazza while arguing balls and strikes in a 19-inning loss to the Cleveland Indians on July 1.
Encarnacion, one of five Blue Jays players headed to the all-star game next week in San Diego, is batting .267 with 23 home runs and a major league-leading 80 runs batted in.
