WINNIPEG — The province is hoping its Amphibex AE 400 machine can help keep critical drains clear on Caddy Lake, in the Whiteshell.
The machine, normally used to cut ice to prevent spring flooding, left its home in Selkirk Friday and will take to the high water in the region recently hammered by heavy rains.

The Amphibex will be on the lake for several days to clear large, floating pieces of vegetation called ‘bogs’ that could block lake drainage tunnels.
The machine has a rake attachment to collect the bogs, and drag them to shore where they’ll be hauled away. The province will assess other lakes in the area for possible clearing as well.
For safety reasons, the Caddy Lake boat launch will be temporarily closed until the Amphibex has completed its work.
