Tropical Storm Kirk forms far out in Atlantic; not currently a threat to land

MIAMI – Tropical Storm Kirk has formed far out in the Atlantic Ocean but currently poses no threat to land.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm late Tuesday night generated winds of 72 kilometres an hour with higher gusts.

Some strengthening is forecast during the next two days.

Kirk is centred almost 2,000 kilometres northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands and moving west at about 20 kilometres an hour.
