Striking workers at Sifto’s Goderich, Ont., salt mine say tentative deal reached

GODERICH, Ont. – Workers at the Sifto Canada salt mine in Goderich, Ont., have reached a tentative agreement with their employer.

The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union Local 16-0 says the agreement with Compass Minerals is still subject to a review and a ratification vote has been scheduled for next week.

About 400 workers have been on strike since Aug. 20.

The workers had been without a contract since the spring.

The mine is the largest employer in the southwestern Ontario town and the last strike at the mine was in 2006.
