Man charged after police incident at Pacific Highway border crossing

A U.S. man has now been identified and charges laid after an incident at the Pacific Highway border crossing on Tuesday afternoon.

Thirty-two-year-old Kashon Kohler is in a Bellingham jail and accused of rushing the border crossing into Canada.

At 2:40 p.m. a Volkswagen Jetta travelling north failed to stop at the Canadian border. Police said the driver may have been in possession of a firearm.

The car travelled south along 176 Street and then doubled back to the border crossing. Patrol cars rammed the vehicle and Kohler was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Police were also seen searching an area along 192 Street between 16 and 24 Avenues.

Southbound lanes at the border crossing were closed but later reopened.
