An RCMP officer is expected to be in Wetaskiwin Court on September 13th for election and plea, after being charged with assault.
Cst. Ronald Craig Lavallee, an officer with the Hobbema RCMP Detachment, has been charged with one count of common assault. The charge was sworn on July 4th, as a result of a criminal investigation. His first appearance was July 4th, followed by a second Court date of July 17th, both of which were adjourned.

RCMP says the charge came about as a result of a public complaint received by the detachment, which alleged that excessive force was used during an arrest that took place in Hobbema.
RCMP says a thorough investigation into the complaint was conducted, and reviewed by senior personnel in “K” Division Criminal Operations Branch. The investigation was then forwarded to a senior Crown Prosecutor at Alberta Justice and Solicitor General, who recommended this charge.
“Having had oversight of the investigational process in this case,” said Superintendent Curtis Zablocki, District Officer-in-Charge of Central Alberta RCMP, “I am satisfied we did what Albertans expect from us, and that is to conduct a complete, thorough and impartial investigation.”
Cst. Lavallee has just over six years of service, and is still stationed at Hobbema Detachment. He previously served at the Ponoka Detachment.
Cst. Lavallee is currently on medical leave.
The RCMP says, because the incident is now before the courts, it won’t be commenting further.
