National fishing week is underway and as part of the celebration, Saskatchewan is holding its annual free fishing weekend.
On July 9 and 10, anglers and those wanting to try out fishing for the first time can do so without a licence.
“Sport fishing is a popular outdoor activity enjoyed throughout our province,” said Environment Minister Herb Cox.
“Free fishing weekend is an excellent opportunity for families, friends, residents and visitors of all ages to experience summer fishing in Saskatchewan’s beautiful environment.”

Even though it is free fishing weekend, there are still restrictions in place.
Regular angling limits and other sport fishing laws remain in effect and anyone planning on taking fish out of the province must have a licence.
For those heading to Lac La Ronge, they must have a Lac La Ronge endorsement and harvest ledger.

Also, national parks do not observe free fishing weekend.
