Windy conditions proved to be a challenge for fire crews battling a blaze above Union Road in Kelowna Sunday morning.

The Kelowna Fire Department was called to the scene around 3 a.m. and responded with 22 personnel in two bush trucks, two engines, a water tender and a command vehicle.

The fire was spreading quickly due to significant wind.

Firefighters managed to contain the fire to an area about 50 feet by 300 feet.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated by the RCMP.

The Kelowna Fire Department is reminding people to be extremely careful with open flame and smoking material near wooded areas.
