The University of Regina (U of R) has launched an investigation after a privacy breach.
Three personal computers from various faculties were hacked last week in two separate cyber attacks.
According to the U of R, names, student and employee numbers, as well as social insurance numbers, may have been accessed.
“There is no evidence at this point that any personal information has been accessed, disseminated or disclosed as part of this,” Communications Executive Director Kim McKechney said.
But we’re taking the breach very seriously.”
McKechney wouldn’t confirm how many students may be affected, but did say an investigation is ongoing.
“We’ve notified students, faculty and staff, we’ve notified the privacy commissioner and we’re investigating through a digital forensic analysis.”
The university has also released a notice to all students, faculty and staff advising them to take extra security precautions such as updating passwords and avoid clicking on suspicious links.
