The bid is in; Penticton wants the Scotties

PENTICTON–Penticton is officially in the running to host the 2018 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

The bid has been submitted along with support from the City of Penticton.

“It’s out of our hands now,” host-committee co-chair Kim Kirkham said this week. “With the help of the City of Penticton, and its management, we have submitted the best bid this city could have submitted.”

There are two other cities vying for the Canadian women’s curling championship; Langley, B.C. and Sydney, N.S.

It’s now up to Curling Canada to select which city will host the Jan. 28-Feb. 4, 2018 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

The public announcement of the successful bid will be made at the end of August.

Kirkham says hosting the Scotties Tournament of Hearts would draw huge crowds and boost the local and regional economies by as much as $12 million.

Kelowna resident and national and international women’s curling champion, Kelly Scott is standing behind Penticton’s bid.

The host-committee set a goal to sell $100-full-event-ticket deposits prior to submitting it’s bid to Curling Canada.

Last week, Penticton city council heard that organizers only sold 364 of those deposits.
