Residents living in northwest Calgary took to the streets Thursday to oppose a proposed condo development on the former Highland Park Golf Course.
As many as 50 protesters carrying signs lined Centre Street North to rally against the potential project.
A Vancouver-based developer wants to build 2,000 condo units on the land, in addition to commercial and retail space, paths and parkways.
Members of the Highland Park Community Association are not opposed to the area being developed, but said they’re not happy with the current proposal.
“Highland Park is not actually opposed to the development of the golf course,” Highland Park Community Association President Elise Bieche said “But we are opposed to this development of the golf course. We are looking for a development that is far more sight sensitive and sensitive to the surrounding community which is Highland Park and Thorncliffe.”
