Following repeated questions from the family, Saskatchewan’s chief coroner, Kent Stewart, announced Wednesday that an inquest will be held into the death of Nadine Machiskinic.
Twenty-nine-year-old Machiskinic was found at the bottom of the laundry chute at Regina’s Delta Hotel in January 2015.
The final coroner’s report released earlier this month concluded that her death was accidental.

However, Delores Stevenson, Machiskinic’s aunt, said the family received an alternate autopsy report early in the death investigation. The family said it concluded Machiskinic’s death should be listed as undetermined.

In the statement, the chief coroner as there has been much attention regarding the circumstances around Machiskinic’s death, “it is important that the public confidence in the Coroners Service be upheld.”
“Given these circumstances I have determined that an inquest will be held in order to provide an opportunity to thoroughly review the circumstances in a public forum.”
Stewart also said in the statement that his office will organize the inquest in the near future. Once the details have been finalized, a public announcement will be released.
