Bombers back off strict food and water rules

Cheerios, cherries, carrot sticks. Those are now back on the list of food items Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans can bring to games. And water is now free. Or at least water dispensed from ten coolers currently being installed throughout the stadium.

“It isn’t a policy change,” said Bombers President and CEO, Garth Buchko Thursday. “It’s listening to our fans, and I think its very important to do that.”

New rules banning ALL outside purchases from entering the stadium were put into effect this year. But fan complaints concerning the rules and what some called ‘hostile’ security guards enforcing them prompted the Blue Bombers brass to make some ‘amendments’ to the rules this week.

“We’re encouraging our security team to let people bring in snacks, single serving snacks like sunflower seeds, bags of cheerios, cherries or carrot sticks,” said Buchko. “We’re going to get people through security as quickly as possible but make sure things are safe.”

Water brought from outside the stadium still isn’t allowed but those upset with the cost of purchasing it at the stadium for three dollars a bottle, can now bring in their own empties and fill them at the new coolers.
