Man arrested following weapons complaint in downtown Halifax

A 27-year-old man is facing charges of possession of dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon following an incident in downtown Halifax on Friday evening.

Police were called to the intersection of Hollis Street and Bishop Street around 7 p.m. after a pedestrian noticed a man putting a firearm in his waistband.

The suspect was located a short time later in the nearby Mezza Restaurant and arrested without incident.

Officers say initially, they believe the firearm to be a replica, but it has been sent for further testing.

The man, whose name has not been released, will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.
