With an in-store butcher and a 12-foot cheese wall that features more than 300 varieties of cheese, Edmonton’s core now has a brand new supermarket.

The grand opening of the Loblaws CityMarket on 120 Street and 104 Avenue, in the city’s Brewery District, was held Friday morning.

The CityMarket is a full-service grocery store that focuses on fresh food. It has more than 140 organic produce items in store.

“We know residents in the community are looking forward to the revitalization of the downtown core and we are thrilled to be opening a grocery store that can fulfill the need for fresh, quality, great tasting food in the area,” store owner Chad McDowell said.

“Our knowledgeable staff cannot wait to assist customers and help them pick those key items to make their summer celebration the hit of the season.”

Anita Jensen lives nearby in Queen Mary Park and was very pleased with what she saw Friday morning.

“I really like it. It’s got so much stuff I can’t imagine seeing it all yet. I’m taste-testing everything, they’ve got coffee cup holders on your carts. So far I really like it,” Jensen said. “So far I’m impressed with the cheese and the meat and the cake… everything.”

“I’ve always been a connoisseur of cheeses, my father was Danish. But to be able to find all of the different types, that’s hard.”

The CityMarket is open Monday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
