A man from the United States has been charged after allegedly trying to sneak into Manitoba by hiding in a vehicle, according to the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA).
The agency said officers found a man hiding in the back of the vehicle at the Sprague crossing, in southern Manitoba, on June 13, 2016.
Barry Roger Holmes has been charged with failing to appear for examination and willful evasion of compliance pursuant to the Customs Act.
“This case demonstrates the critical role CBSA officers have in protecting our borders by keeping inadmissible people from entering Canada,” said Kim Scoville, regional director of the Prairie region for CBSA.
“I’m very proud of the work completed at the border by our Sprague officers and also the casework so far by our Criminal Investigations section that will come to fruition in the court of law.”
The driver is currently under investigation.
