UPDATE: Champagne Bridal in Saskatoon closes permanently

Planning a wedding can be stressful enough but try to imagine if you were left in limbo wondering if you’re wedding gown would arrive in time for the big day.

Well that’s exactly what some Saskatoon brides say they’ve been put through after saying “yes to the dress.”

In October, Megan King says she found her dream wedding dress at Champagne Bridal after getting engaged to the man of her dreams.

“It’s been an absolute nightmare, I’m shocked at the service I’ve received from this store,” King said.

For months, she’s been given the run-around about the delivery of her dress as her wedding creeps closer.

“You start to get fed up with all of the excuses that they keep giving,” she said.

On Thursday, her fiancée took matters into his own hands and sat in the bridal store for three hours demanding an answer.

“We got our money back thankfully and now we are having the dress shipped directly from the designer to us.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

It’s expected to arrive Tuesday or Wednesday of next week and the designer took a bit of hit says King, after she bought the dress for $1,200 plus taxes. The retail value according to the designer was $2,600.

“It makes me sick to think that there are other brides and bridesmaids and graduates out there who are going through this exact same thing.”

King was right, she wasn’t alone in wanting to pull out her hair while waiting for the dress she had her heart set on.

Jennifer Allenby said she bought her dress on Sept. 11 and was supposed to receive it by April.

Her dress would arrive a month late and until Thursday she thought she would be scrambling to find new bridesmaid dresses nearly a week out from her wedding until another area bridal store gave them the contact information for the dress maker.

“They told my bridesmaid that our dresses had been sitting there for weeks, nobody had made an attempt to get them.”

On Friday, Global News made several attempts to reach Champagne Bridal but without success over the phone. So we paid a visit to the store and met a bride-to-be walking out with her gown.

“I bought my dress off the rack and I had it there stored,” said Jessica Sevigny.

“All six of my bridesmaids had ordered from there and we’re still waiting for their dresses.”

So Global News went straight to the source of all these wedding dress woes.

“All I’m going to say is we want the opportunity to reach out to our brides, we do have a story and if we could just call you back,” said Lynn, one of the owners of Champagne Bridal.

Global News is still waiting for a response but Champagne Bridal did post this to their Facebook page:

Still, the brides-to-be say operating a business this way is unacceptable and want to save others from the same stress and potential heartache.

“I would not feel good knowing what I know and seeing this happen to other people.”
