When police arrived, they found the victim sprawled on the road and quickly administered first aid.

He was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition.

Investigators were on the scene for several hours trying to understand the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police said alcohol was not a factor but they have not yet ruled out the possibility that speed was involved.

No one else was injured in the single-vehicle crash.
