PIERREFONDS-ROXBORO–Rosemary Gould has lived in an apartment building on Pierrefonds Boulevard near Dorsi Street for 20 years.

She says she’s not surprised after police took at 36-year-old man into custody following a stabbing and confinement of a female victim.

“We were expecting something from the day he moved in,” she said. “He really gave me the creeps.”

She says the man who lived below her kept to himself and rarely spoke to anyone after moving here in November.

Gould said she suspected her neighbour was up to no good after she saw a woman repeatedly knocking on his door and hanging around the building all week.

Early Monday morning, her fears were realized.

“Police went up to his door and he didn’t let them in,” she said. “They said to open up the door or they would kick it in. After three kicks they finally opened it and he had all sorts of locks and everything else on it.”

The woman managed to escape and ran out into the street to call 9-1-1.

When police arrived they found her on the sidewalk with multiple stab wounds to the upper body.

“It seems like the woman got stabbed earlier in the day and the man confined her inside the apartment for several hours,” said police spokesperson Manuel Couture.

She was taken to hospital by police and is expected to survive.

Investigators were on the scene Monday morning trying to establish the link between victim and suspect.

“We know that they knew each other but we don’t know their relationship between the two,” said Couture.

As for Gould, she says she’s going to move out and raise any red flags about her neighbours in the future.
