The blazing sun in Calgary on Sunday was a great excuse to hit the town and check out the Lilac Festival.
Thousands of people crammed 4 Street for the annual event.
A parade kicked things off at 10 a.m. but the street was busy with people well before the festival officially started.
This year there was more than 500 vendors and six stages hosting 30 performances.
“We always know when we have a temperature that’s supposed to be in the 27-26 celsius degree range, it’s going to be busy,” said Victoria Kuefler, who was working at the festival. “Our line is usually pretty out of control. It’s steady and it will be long the whole day and you never really see the end of it.”
The Lilac Fest started in 1990, when it attracted approximately 10,000 people. Now, more than 100,000 people flock to the free one-day event.
The event takes place between 13 Avenue and Elbow Drive from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
