Should all cyclists wear helmets? City hall to debate the issue in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG — As Winnipeggers get their bikes tuned up for summer, a city committee is set to debate the merits of making helmets mandatory for everyone.

The issue will be brought up at Monday’s Protection, Community Services and Park committee meeting, after a previous committee made the recommendation.

On top of mandatory helmets, councillors also want the city administration staff look into requiring all bikes to have a sound device such as a bell or horn, as well as proper lighting if the bike will be used between dusk until dawn.

Right now it is only law for children under 18-years-old to wear helmets.
