Woman charged after allegedly defrauding Ontario town’s chamber of commerce: police

GEORGINA, Ont. — A 42-year-old woman is facing charges after allegedly defrauding her local chamber of commerce of more than $20,000.

York Regional Police say they began investigating in January after a complaint from the chamber of commerce in Georgina, Ont., about 80 kilometres north of Toronto.

They say an internal audit had revealed a number of document forgeries and fraudulent cheques during the tenure of a former employee.

Police did not indicate how long the alleged offences were taking place.

Monique Dixon has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust by a public official.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
