Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission allows all-day ‘happy hours’

The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) has eliminated the 8 p.m. limit on ‘happy hours,’ which means businesses can now offer reduced drink prices at any time.

Any establishment serving alcohol can set reduced prices during operating hours.

However there will still be minimum prices for drink specials and a limit on the number of drinks a patron can order after 1 a.m.

Establishments with liquor licences and their staff are expected to follow all requirements for responsible liquor services, including no service to intoxicated individuals.

The AGLC hopes the policy change reduces the need for a full-day reduction in menu prices and helps support safe and responsible drinking environments.
