MONTREAL -Residents with an insatiable appetite for culture were in luck, as Sunday was Montreal Museums Day.
Lovers of history, art, fashion, science, film and architecture enjoyed free access to 36 museums across the city, as a fleet of 38 Montreal buses offered free shuttle services along five planned routes.
Buses departed from the Promenade des Artistes, in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles, and ran continuously from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It was also possible to join in from one of the participating museums along the way.
Those whose patience was being tested by the lineups at the different bus stops had the option of hopping on a Bixi — also free of charge. As part of a new initiative, Bixi is offering free rides every last Sunday of the month, from May to October.
Over 100 activities were planned for the 30th edition of Montreal Museum Day, many of which were held outdoors at the Promenade des Artistes.
Organizers said the aim of the event was to make culture accessible to the masses and to help Montrealers take ownership of their museum heritage.
