Saskatoon public library workers vote to give union strike mandate

Workers at the Saskatoon Public Library have voted overwhelmingly to give their bargaining committee a strike mandate.

That’s if they are unable to reach a contract agreement with library board negotiators.

Dolores Douglas of the Canadian Union of Public Employees says the board has been unwilling to deal with any of the issues that union members have brought to the table.

Douglas says many union members regularly use the food bank and hold down two or three jobs to make ends meet and a two per cent increase on minimum wage is just not good enough.

The 250 workers have been without a contract since March 31, 2010.
