WEST KELOWNA — RCMP are looking for a man after he and a woman fled from police early Saturday morning.

The woman has been arrested.

At around 9:30 a.m. police responded to a report of a disturbance between a man and a woman at a business in the 2600 block of Ross Road, according to Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“When police arrived on scene, the man and woman fled in a 90’s GMC Jimmy and failed to stop for police,” said O’Donaghey.

“The vehicle was being driven in a dangerous manner.”

O’Donaghey said the vehicle was later found abandoned in the Bear Creek park campground.

“With the assistance of a police service dog, the woman suspect was located and arrested without incident. The male suspect remains outstanding.”

There have been reports of a boat that was stolen from the area and investigators believe it may have been stolen by the suspect(s), but police haven’t confirmed whether that’s the case.

“The boat is described as flat (hull) bottom, pointed at the front, dark green with beige strip near top, three seats and a Minkota motor,” said O’Donaghey.

Global News spoke to the man who says it was his fishing vessel that was snatched.

“After breakfast, we decided we were going to go fishing and I walked down there and it was gone. So then we were talking to some friends and they said they saw it at 9 o’clock this morning when they went for a walk. So within like three hours, it was gone,” said James Wong.

The male suspect that police are searching for is described as a heavy set, bald man in his 30’s, who is 6’2″ and wearing a blue sweater, purple shirt, blue jeans and white runners.

“The West Kelowna RCMP continue to investigate a variety of criminal offences,” said O’Donaghey.

“If the general public spots the boat or the suspect, police ask that they not to approach them and call 911 immediately.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Kelowna RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
