Sask. man who threatened to behead girlfriend earns time behind bars

A Saskatchewan man convicted of threatening to cut the head off his former girlfriend with a machete has been given 16 months in jail. Raymond Knife, 34, was sentenced Monday after a Prince Albert judge found him guilty last Friday of one charge of assault and one of threatening to use a weapon.

Court was told that Knife and his partner, who was pregnant at the time of last summer’s assault, visited the city from Saskatoon to sell crystal meth.

A conflict arose when the woman wanted to return to Saskatoon and Knife learned she had been communicating with a former partner.

Court heard the accused pushed her down to take her money and cellphone away, then threatened to behead her.

Based on time already spent in custody, Knife will serve just over six more months behind bars.
