A Florida woman escaped serious injury after an airborne turtle smashed through the windshield of her vehicle.
It happened on May 9, when a vehicle driving in front of Nicole Bjanes ran over a turtle.
The speed of the vehicle sent the reptile flying into the air, smashing through Bjane’s front window, hitting the passenger seat, and then bouncing back onto the dashboard.
“Like a missile, it just shot through,” Bjanes told WESH, pointing at a piece of glass lodged in her back window.
Bjanes suffered only minor cuts in the accident, but was shaken up.
“I was bleeding just a little bit, nothing major, but there was blood coming down because it just grazed my head,” Bjanes said. “I think that also freaked me out a little bit, and just looked in and realized there is in fact a turtle in my car.”
Remarkably, even after being run over and sent flying through a car windshield, the turtle survived.
“The trooper did grab the turtle, and then the EMT walked it down to the water and put it in the water and it swam away,” Bjanes said. “That’s how I knew it was OK.”
