Frost hits canola crop in Saskatchewan, Alberta

Widespread frost in western Saskatchewan is expected to force many farmers to re-seed newly emerged canola crops. G3 Canada crops analyst Bruce Burnett says the thermometer dropped to -3 to -6 minus in some areas.

Burnett says there was also a light frost in eastern Saskatchewan.

He says the damage could be extensive in parts of the province and southern Alberta.

Colder temperatures forecast for Saturday could cause even more harm.

The cool weather is also expected to affect some emerged pulse crops and slow the growth of cereal crops other than barley.
