WINNIPEG — Those affected by wildfires aren’t the only ones hoping for a good rain Tuesday
Farmers across Manitoba are also looking for some moisture.
Agriculture expert Harry Siemens said it’s been a dry start to seeding.
“They’re waiting for it all over the province. Right now, if we could get 50 millimetres of rain across the province, it would absolutely be a billion dollar rain,” Siemens explained.
“The pastures need it, the dugouts need it, we all need it at this point, because there’s not too much moisture anywhere in the province.
He said almost half of the crop in Manitoba is already in the ground.
“When planting time came along, yes, it was a little bit dry. There’s parts of southern Manitoba that got a good rain a number of weeks ago but that disappeared once the winds started blowing and the temperature started to rise.”
Farmers may get their wish granted, with showers in the forecast for the next few days.
