MONTREAL — Saint-Henri residents are getting fed up over what they describe as declining postal service in the neighbourhood, causing delays and, in some instances, errors.
One resident put the blame on the loss of the standalone post office that used to be at the corner of Saint-Jacques and Sainte-Marguerite streets.
“They really knew what they were doing,” said Doug Bishop, who runs a business in Saint-Henri.
Bishop sells T-shirts across Canada and the United States.
However, after the post office in Saint-Henri closed, he switched to a courier service rather than use a postal counter.
One problem some residents reported was that it’s difficult to understand how or why Canada Post does what it does to deliver mail.
Matthieu Payen said he often get notices that a parcel has come in, but isn’t at the counter when he goes to pick it up, indicating a disconnect between the delivery crew and the sorter.
“I’ve seen it quite a few times,” Payen said.
“I don’t know how it’s organized. I don’t know why it’s happening.”
Canada Post did not return calls from Global News by deadline, and the manager of the postal counter near the Atwater Market declined to comment.
