Police began investigating the company in 2013 after receiving reports from investors that there may be discrepancies in the past operation and eventual bankruptcy of Optam Holdings Inc.

On April 1, the 45-year-old was charged with 80 counts of fraud over $5,000 and three counts of theft over $5,000.

Closson is scheduled to appear in court in Edmonton on Friday.
