Police investigate written threat found at Sturgeon Heights Collegiate

WINNIPEG — Police are investigating a threat scrawled on the wall of a boys bathroom at Sturgeon Heights Collegiate.

The details about the message are not known, but it can be interpreted as a potential threat to safety, according to the school’s administration.

The school is still open but police said they will remain on site throughout the day.

“Since that time, numerous police resources have been working with school administration to determine the nature of the threat and who may be responsible,” reads a statement from Winnipeg Police.

A letter about the incident was also sent to students’ families Tuesday.

“We would like to inform you that one of the school bathrooms was vandalized with graffiti and that message could be interpreted as a potential threat to the safety of our school on May 11, 2016,” the letter read.

“The things that matter most in these kinds of threats are whether or not there’s a date on there and whether or not there’s a time and then whether or not there’s name or there isn’t a name,” said Brett Lough, St. James-Assiniboia School Division chief superintendent.

There is surveillance video of the bathroom that shows students going in and out who may responsible, which is being reviewed , according to Lough.

Officials are also analyzing handwriting in an effort to determine who’s wrote the threat.
