Finding Nemo: Dog seen swimming in Burrard Inlet looking for his home

His new name is Nemo, for now at least, and although he’s not a fish, he was swimming for his life when he was found.

Nemo was spotted by the Vancouver Fire Department in the Burrard Inlet on Sunday, July 15, and originally they thought he was a seal. When they realized it was a dog bobbing up and down they went over and pulled the exhausted animal on to their boat.

Now the staff at Northwest Boarding Kennels are looking for his owner.

Staff estimate the dog is only about one year old and he doesn’t have a chip or a tattoo.

Efforts to find his owner have been unsuccessful so far, but staff say he is very friendly and was clearly owned by someone. He seemed to be quite dehydrated when he arrived, and they think that was because he was swimming in the water for “quite some time.”

The shelter is going to wait until the end of this week, and if no one comes forward they will put him up for adoption.

Word is, one of the firemen might be interested in a new furry friend named Nemo.
