CALGARY – Global News has learned the identity of one of five men who died in a house fire in Falconridge over the weekend.
Sources confirm 47-year-old Gurcharan Panesar is originally from India. A funeral service for Panesar will be held on Saturday at the Calgary Crematorium Chapel.
The blaze broke out in the 100 block of Falchurch Crescent N.E. at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Firefighters arrived to find the house engulfed in flames which were spreading to neighbouring property.
Once the fire was extinguished, crews entered the home to find the men’s bodies.

“As is standard procedure in the event of fire fatalities, police were called to investigate whether the deaths are suspicious,” police said in a Monday news release.
Investigators are interviewing witnesses and said Monday they had not yet determined if there was “anything suspicious” about the fire.
Autopsies are expected to be completed on Monday or Tuesday.
Police said names of the victims won’t be released unless the deaths are deemed to be criminal in nature
