KELOWNA – Kelowna RCMP are hoping tips from the public can help them track down a man who fled from police, abandoning an array of weapons for officers to find.
RCMP say they recovered a restricted handgun, brass knuckles, a baton, ammunition and drug paraphernalia from a vehicle but are still looking for the driver.
According to police, the incident started Tuesday when they tried unsuccessfully to pull over a speeding vehicle on Highway 33.
Soon afterwards they got a tip about the vehicle.
“A local resident notified the Kelowna RCMP that they witnessed a male driver speed into a cul-de-sac and run from the car,” says Cpl Tania Carroll in a media release.
Police say the man was spotted “running through a yard, down Lynrick Road” but was not caught.
The driver is being described as Caucasian and approximately six feet fall.
Police say he was wearing jeans, a pink hoodie and “carrying a man bag” at the time of the incident.
