REGINA – Construction season in the city officially launched Wednesday but the unseasonably warm weather crews means have already been out in full force.
This year’s $86 million spending on construction will help fix roads and advance drainage projects.
Here is a breakdown of the spending:
- Residential roads – $5.5 million
- Arterial, collector and expressway renewal – $18 million
- Bridges – $3.5 million
- Traffic signals and pedestrian corridors – $6.5 million
- Alley and isolated concrete and pavement maintenance – $ 12.85 million
- Water, wastewater and drainage – $40 million
“We have consistently heard from residents that they want to see more work done on local streets,” said Mayor Michael Fougere.
”We responded with a five-year Residential Road Renewal program that sees a one per cent mill rate increase dedicated to local roads that will result in annual spending of $14 million by 2019.”

The Residential Road Renewal Project takes a three-pronged approach – preservation, renewal and rebuild. The projects are spread across three road condition categories – good, fair and poor.
There are 58 projects with nearly 20.1 kilometers of roadways scheduled for work.
Water, wastewater and drainage infrastructure projects include:
- Water main relining/replacement of 1.9 km – Marsh Crescent, Gardiner Avenue, Montague Street, Durham Drive and 6th Avenue.
- Sewer main relining of approximately 8.9 km – portions of 7th Avenue and 15th Avenue trunks and 5500 m of domestic and storm mains, and trenchless spot repairs at more than 200 locations.
- Hauled Wastewater Station construction to be completed and open for operations in fall 2016.
- Wastewater pumping system upgrades – Westhill, Edward Street and McCarthy Boulevard pumping stations.
- Drainage improvements – Arcola Avenue Detention facility (over the next two years) and the 5th Avenue North Relief Trunk Upgrade.
The city is reminding motorists there will be a number of detours and traffic delays and ask for your patience and consideration for the safety of workers present.
