Roughriders announce Saskatoon training camp festivities

SASKATOON – The new-look Saskatchewan Roughriders are heading back to Saskatoon to train for the upcoming 2016 CFL season. Training camp will start on May 29 at Griffiths Stadium.

“This is a special year for Rider Nation and we wanted to do something above and beyond for our fans here in Saskatoon,” said Gregg Sauter, the Riders vice-president of business development and marketing.

A number of events are planned while the team is in the Bridge City.

On May 27, a kickoff party featuring One Bad Son will be held at O’Brian’s Event Centre. Some Rider players will make an appearance at the event.

The first live scrimmage takes place on June 4 at SMF Field at the Gordie Howe Sports Centre.

The team will take the field at 4 p.m. CT, giving fans their first look at the Riders and coaching staff.

Following the scrimmage, player appearances and a cabaret will take place.

There will also be activities for kids during the day, and appearances by Gainer the Gopher and the Rider Cheer Team.

Game day will come to 21st Street on June 12 featuring a street festival and tailgate barbeque.

More details are to come, but the day starts at noon and includes a Rider kids zone, activity drills where kids of all ages can train with the pros and appearances by players and coaches.
