MONTREAL – Nearly 400 volunteers gathered at the Chalet du Mont-Royal on Sunday morning to kick start spring time festivities and do a little bit of spring cleaning.

The volunteers spent their morning cleaning up trash that has slowly been piling up around the park over the past year.

This year marks the 140th anniversary of Mount Royal and the 25th anniversary of the cleanup effort organized by Les amis de la montagne.

The tally for this year was over 87 bags of trash.

“It’s easy to dismiss public assets as being the responsibility of some separated public body,” said Peter Howlett, President of Les amis de la montagne. “That’s not what community is about, and we’re fortunate to have so many people who feel that way.”

Les amis de la montagne will be hosting several events throughout the season, including more cleaning efforts, as well as guided tours, an evening of dancing, and a movie night. For a full list of events click here.
