KELOWNA – Many Okanagan high school students are getting ready to celebrate graduation and itching to get outside and enjoy the nice weather.
However, during this celebratory time of year, Kelowna RCMP are warning of the possible pitfalls of bush parties.

Police say parties organized by young people in remote areas can be dangerous because kids are far away from help if someone is hurt and there is no oversight.
“No one is supervising or watching out for young drivers leaving the area intoxicated, youths drinking to the point of passing out or potentially over dosing on illegal drug,” says Cst. Robyn Boffy who serves as a school resource officer.
“Cell phone coverage is spotty in these remote locations and help can be a long way away.”

On top of the personal safety risks, police say these types events can have other negative consequences for the environment because partiers leave trash behind and neglect to fully put out fires.
