Montreal police investigating two suspicious fires

MONTREAL – Investigations are underway after two suspicious fires keep Montreal police busy.

The first began at 12:20 a.m. Monday in a commercial building slated for conversion to condos.

The fire, which turned into a five-alarm inferno, completely destroyed the Phase II of Le Daly-Morin Condos & Lofts building at 1864 Victoria street.

After traces of an accelerant were discovered inside the building, the investigation into the cause of the fire was transferred from the fire department to the Montreal police arson squad.

The second fire was happened just before 3 a.m. when a Molotov cocktail was thrown into a business at 5127 Jean-Talon St. East.

There was no significant damage and no injuries. Those living in the apartment above were not evacuated.
