A TransLink employee helped rescue six baby geese from a SkyTrain pillar in Richmond Thursday morning.

TransLink employee Maja Hendriks happened to look up underneath the tracks at Bridgeport Station at around 9 a.m. when she saw two adult geese, flying back and forth between the tracks and bus loop.

“I saw something small moving around and I heard peeps, so I knew there were babies up there,” said Hendriks.

Hendriks says both adult geese made their way down and would not allow the buses to go through.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The next thing she knew, all six goslings took a dive off the edge, in what was about a 30-foot drop.

It appears a bus operator was involved at some stage as well.

Hendriks and other bystanders tried to pick up the baby geese to make sure they don’t get hit by the incoming buses.

They were put in a box and away from danger. It appears the resilient baby birds were not hurt.

“There was a lot of commotion as some of the passengers were crying and yelling, because they thought the goslings were going to drop to their deaths,” says Hendriks. “But all of them are fine. Not one of them had any injuries.”

Meanwhile in an unrelated incident in Abbotsford, Sgt. Nightingale tweeted out the photo of another baby geese rescue. Nightingale says “fowl play” is not suspected.
