The provincial government says it has also approved early design plans for the Saskatoon-based hospital.

The floor plans were created based on ideas from patients and their families, staff and doctors to improve delivery of care.

The next design phase is scheduled to conclude in September and focuses on how each room should be set up.

Construction is to start in early 2014 and is slated for completion in late 2016.
