LONGUEUIL – It could be the end of the line for south shore commuters waiting on a proposed extension to the Montreal Metro yellow line.

Transport Minister Jacques Daoust said he’s putting all his effort into extending the blue line east of Saint-Michel, to Anjou.

Estimates have the cost of the five-km extension, which would carry 80,000 users every day, at $1.8 billion.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said recently that Ottawa would be investing $775 million in public transit in Montreal, which should be used for maintenance and upgrades.

Daoust did promise that a favourable announcement about a light rail project would be coming soon to the Champlain Bridge, though the project is only expected to be completed Dec. 1, 2018.
