It’s been a heartbreaking week for Rob Furr. The canine companion he rescued from halfway around the world has gone missing.
“He means the world to me,” Furr said. “I got ‘Harpo’ cause he needed somebody, but now I need him just as bad.”
Furr had ‘Harpo’ sent to Calgary two months ago from Hungary, where he’d been living a tough life as a street dog in a village near Budapest.
“He was being hunted by other dogs, people there were throwing rocks and trying to chase him away. He was starving,” Furr explained. “When I saw him on Facebook, nobody in all of Europe would adopt this dog, so I said I would”.
Furr spent about $2,000 bringing ‘Harpo’ to Calgary, only to have him run away last week while they were taking a walk near their home in the Castleridge neighbourhood.
“He’s got to be out there somewhere hiding,” Furr said. “Because that’s all he knows how to do. Nobody would help him, but now he needs to help me, cause I’m hurting real bad. He’s my dog and I love him, and I want him home.”
