The float was on the school grounds following the parade when the child jumped off the trailer on the passenger side and was run over by its wheels.

The float was a dual-axle trailer being pulled by a pickup truck and was moving about two to three kilometres-an-hour at the time.

Two nurses on another float immediately attended to the boy and he was transported by EMS to hospital where he died a short time later.

His name has not been released.
