An Australian cyclist suffered severe bruising and required several stitches after he ran into a kangaroo over the weekend in New South Wales.

The accident that killed the kangaroo was captured on a go-pro camera.

Dominic Shepherd was riding with a group of cyclists doing around 40 km/h before the kangaroo jumped onto the road and knocked him off his bike.

“No broken bones but lots of skin off and stitches to the face. Watch out for the wildlife!! R.I.P Skippy,” Shepherd wrote on YouTube, where he posted the video.

“The kangaroos tend to be really random, they get spooked and often bolt sideways or change course diagonally and hit things, poor thing was just scared.”

The group of 20 cyclists was travelling between Harefield and Wagga when the kangaroo hopped straight at Shepherd.

A doctor in the group helped him before an emergency team arrived and took Shepherd to hospital.

But Shepherd said the accident won’t stop him from riding. After a full recovery, he says he’ll be back on the road.
