DORVAL – Dorval’s register on the proposed six-storey condo on Lakeshore Drive and Cloverdale Avenue collected 300 signatures on Tuesday, surpassing the 240 needed to trigger a referendum.

Dorval council members will now have the option to either reject the project, or hold a referendum.
If a referendum is held, the same 11 zones that were invited to sign the register will be able to vote on the issue.
The council doesn’t have a date to debate the project yet, although the next caucus is on April 18.
The mayor is away and couldn’t comment on the issue.

For months, citizens have oppsed the proposed condo development.
“The war is not won,” said Florence Bordage, who lives near the proposed condo project and is part of a group of critics.
Bordage said in spite of the win, she, along with her group members will continue their work.
“The message we sent was ‘go in great numbers to the next city council meeting and voice your opinion on whether a referendum should be even opened,'” she said.
Bordelage is hopeful city council will not go ahead with a referendum, as she believes “the vote sent a clear message that the project should be stopped.”
She said that, at least for tonight, they will take a moment to savour their victory.
“We’re going to have a party,” she said.
