MONTREAL – The health of Senator Jacques Demers has been stabilized and the former Montreal Canadiens head coach has begun therapy after suffering from a stroke last week.
“His overall medical condition is stable and continues to improve,” reads a statement from the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).
Demers, who was in charge of the Habs when they won the Stanley Cup in 1993, has been moved to the inpatient stroke unit for further care.

The Demers family acknowledged the Senator has a the long road to recovery ahead of him and thanked the public for their support and for respecting their privacy.
